Average Cost:
Costs for a power wheelchair vary
tremendously, starting around $1,200 -$1,500 and going as high as
$30,000. Costs for
power wheelchairs vary based on features such as an individualized seat, longer
battery life, ergonomic features and types of wheels. A chair meant for
everyday use costs between $1,000 and $2,000 depending upon the
features of the chair, which can include an individualized seat, various types
of wheels and a lightweight frame. The
Invacare Top End Crossfire All Terrain Rigid Wheelchair
retails for about $1,900 and includes knobby, all-terrain wheels, a
lightweight frame and a variety of color options. Costs
for power wheelchairs vary based on features such as an individualized seat,
longer battery life, ergonomic features and types of wheels. The Permobile C500 Lowrider costs about $10,000,
with adjustable speeds, tight turning radius, higher weight capacity and an
estimated 25-mile battery range. Securing insurance
coverage to purchase a wheelchair can be a challenge. Insurance companies usually have to send
confirmation that the person is in a wheel chair. Typically cover between 50
and 80 percent of the costs.
New-product strategy: This product will in tale a
high tech control plane remote that will control the wheel chair. I know you’re
probably thinking about the fact that the older generation doesn’t really know
how to work new technology and things like that, but this wheel chair will be
automatically connected to their daily schedule. The chair will know everything
from what time dinner starts to where the nearest bus stop is and etc. This
will help the home attends and in house nurses with the patient.
Solution: People
automatically think “get them a home attendant” or an “in house nurse”, but
they aren’t thinking very far into the future. We live in a world where they
can make anything possible and are always creating new things. So why wouldn’t
they think of a robot wheelchair with the features of a regular wheel chair and
a high tech control panel system in one. This will be extra affordable for the
lower upper class and wealthier group of individuals. If you are not able to
afford this wheel chair then there will be some kind of financial assistant,
like insurance and other things.
Problem: As
the older generation becomes less mobile with their lives, things become
limited for them. They aren’t able to move around without help from others and
they have to be very cautious with the things they do. Every wheelchair they
look for are overpriced and in between the costs of 500-35,000 dollars. What average
senior citizen can afford something that expensive?
